Digital Divide

For tomorrow’s lecture you will be reading “The Digital Divide, Political Participation, and Place” by Dari E. Sylvester and Adam J. McGlynn (the reading is available on Ted).

While reading take note of how the authors define political/civic engagement. Do you think it is appropriate or do you believe their definition to be flawed? What are other factors that limit political engagement besides internet access might be at play here?

As I said at the end of today’s lecture, I will start off tomorrow by showing some examples of current debates in free speech in case you’re having trouble thinking of a topic. And here is the interview of Waldron we listened to in class.
