I am Professor of Political Science at the University of California, San Diego and the Co-Director of the Future of Democracy Initiative at the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation. In 2013, I was awarded the Jean Monnet Chair of the European Union.
I received my Ph.D. from the University of Konstanz. Before joining UCSD, I have worked at the University of Konstanz, the Max Planck Institute of Economics, Oxford University, and Princeton University.
My research focuses on the domestic politics of international cooperation, international bargaining, and democratic representation in international organizations with a focus on the European Union, regional organizations, and international development organizations.
