CAPS Services

Hello UCSD Students:

Welcome to UCSD! The South Asian community is inherently diverse, which is symbolized by the richness of a wide range of languages, religions, beliefs and cultural values. While garnering strength through cultural experiences, South Asians often shy away from addressing mental health concerns. Research has shown that mental health problems are prevalent in the Asian population (United States Census Bureau, 2014). However, for many cultural reasons, community members often may not seek professional help to address such concerns.

We hope that your time spend in UCSD is meaningful, productive and thoroughly enjoyable. However, at times, you may experience numerous stressors (e.g., academic, family expectations). UCSD Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) can support you to succeed in your goals. A broad range of topics are discussed in individual/ couples/ group therapy but are not limited to the following:

  • Academic or career concerns
  • Anxiety, depression, & other mood-related problems
  • Couples & relationship concerns
  • Family and cultural issues/expectations
  • Grief/loss
  • Homesickness & other life transitions
  • Identity concerns
  • Sleep & stress management
  • Concerns harming oneself and/or others

Additional CAPS services include:

  • Crisis services (Same day services for urgent concerns, and after hours crisis counseling)
  • Daily Drop-in Workshops
  • Forums (for culturally diverse groups) & Let’s Talk sessions

Kindly refer to the UCSD CAPS website ( to obtain additional information and reach out to us at 858-534-3755 to seek support and professional help.
