Dr. Paul Chapin, former Assistant Professor in UCSD Linguistics from 1967-1975, and longtime director of the Linguistics Program at the National Science Foundation, passed away on July 1, 2015. His friends at the U. of Arizona in Tuscon, where he resided, prepared a memorial tribute:
